This weekend we had our 1,000th borrower join our community library. It was six year old Darcy Ruddock, who joined this Saturday with her brother, mother and father.
She had visited us on a school activity visit from Bradshaw Lane Primary and had asked her family if she could come back on Saturday and sign up as a borrower. She scooped some chocolates for helping us reach the 1K mark.
Darcy is pictured here with her family, who were enjoying our garden play area with a few books and catching some Spring sunshine. Before the school visit, they were not aware we were in Albert Road and remarked "We had a little oasis".
The community library, reopened by the mayor last year after extensive building improvements, now believe they have more active borrowers than when the library was part of the local authority network. Volunteer librarian Jeanette Allen commented, "Its beyond just a library now, we really are creating something special here. Come sign up all your family as borrowers, get involved and enjoy what is happening here". In addition to lending, it hosts local PCSO surgeries, craft groups and is now thriving as an alternative place for private hire; meetings and events.
The community library is ten minutes walk away from St Wilfrids & Bradshaw Lane CP, a map can be found on the website at http://grappenhall.org.uk/contact-us Tel no 01925 268077 or outside opening hours 07543-407885 More details at www.Grappenhall.org.uk
